Overview

The patient advocate is responsible for serving as a liaison between staff and the patient and reports directly to the Patient Advocate Coordinator.  The patient advocate is responsible for follow-up meetings with patients regarding concerns or complaints that were not successfully resolved by staff/manager of the unit.  The patient advocate will enter appropriate complaints and grievances in the grievance database and keep the Patient Advocate Coordinator informed of issues entered.  The patient advocate will perform purposeful rounding on their units and document rounds in the rounding tool.  The patient advocate will visit patients at the request of the Patient Advocate Coordinator and will provide service recovery approved by the coordinator.  The patients advocate will float to areas outside their assigned units at the direction of the Patient Advocate Coordinator and will perform other duties as needed. 

Requirements

The qualified candidate must possess the following:

A. Education

1. High school diploma or GED from an accredited institute required

B. Experience

One year of experience in healthcare setting preferred.

2. Candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, have a commitment to customer service, and be able to work effectively with patients and families.
