Overview

Job Summary

The Levine Cancer Institute, part of Atrium Health, is looking for an intern to work on the Patient Education Initiative. This is a remote internship and will run through May 2023, with the potential to extend if needed and appropriate. This is a paid position with opportunities to gain experience in patient education, writing and communication, cancer care, community health, healthcare administration, and patient experience. 

 

  • Join the LCI Patient Education Initiative team – an on-going project to evaluate, coordinate, and standardize plain language patient education materials across our 25-site cancer network
  • Manage the digital patient education library using MS SharePoint
  • Assist with Oncology Patient Education Committee meetings
  • Write unique monographs in plain language on topics associated with cancer and cancer care
  • Collaborate with LCI clinicians to produce patient education monographs
  • Approximately 32 hrs a week, working remotely
  • Preferred skills:
    • Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Microsoft SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Creative problem-solving
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
    • Academic background in pre-med studies, health communication, health administration, or public health



Essential Functions

  • Performs duties as assigned by leadership that will enhance the intern's college study.
  • Works as a member of the departmental team to develop and implement customer support services to assist patients, families, and guests.
  • Provides administrative coverage.
  • Types documents, creates spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assists with research projects, data analysis, and/or creating various reports.
  • Assists with TJC education preparation as required.

     

Physical Requirements

 

Requires walking, sitting, lifting and reaching overhead. Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds at shoulder height. Must be able to push patients in wheelchairs or supplies on a rolling cart. Intact sense of sight and hearing is required. Responsible for working in a safe manner.



Education, Experience and Certifications

High School Diploma or GED required. Currently enrolled or at least one-year experience in a college/university as an undergraduate or graduate student in Healthcare, Hospitality, Social Sciences, Business Administration or Healthcare Administration required; concentration in Healthcare preferred. Planning, prioritizing, oral and written communication, interpersonal, problem solving, team, and computer skills required.
