The Accountant II performs duties of moderate to high complexity, judgment and scope.  Those duties include preparing and reviewing financial statements and reports, analyzing and reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, troubleshooting problem areas and making recommendations for improving and implementing procedures.  In addition, must sometimes provide limited guidance on specific projects and tasks performed by other Finance personnel.  This individual should be able to work independently with a minimal amount of supervision from the department managers; communicate effectively to a wide range of internal and external customers; and summarize and present financial information in a variety of formats.

Prepares assigned recurring and non-recurring journal entries for the month-end closing process.

Reviews data received from other departments for completeness and accuracy.

Performs account analysis and reconciliations.

Answers questions from department heads concerning variances on performance reports or directs questions to the appropriate individual(s).

Performs reviews, analyses, research and other related duties independently, or as requested by the department manager.

Evaluates accounting systems and procedures and suggest ways to improve output and efficiency.

Communicates timely and appropriately with various Atrium Health personnel and external customers.


Lifting and moving reports and notebooks weighing up to ten pounds.  Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.  Majority of day is spent sitting.


Graduation from an accredited four-year institution of higher learning with a degree in Accounting or Finance is required.  At least one year of related work experience is preferred.  Must be able to work independently and prioritize and manage multiple tasks during times of high volume. Must possess strong written and oral communication skills and be able to prepare and analyze financial statements, supporting work papers and reports.  Must also be capable of exercising good judgment in areas of moderate to high complexity when the situation warrants.  Microsoft Office required, Axiom and Oracle preferred.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to age specific issues and data reflective of the patient’s status.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care of the following age groups:
