Job Summary

Monday 7am-6:00pm, Tuesday – Thursday 7am-4:30 pm; closed Fridays.  HealthQuest of Union County (non-profit pharmacy)/Medication Assistance Partnership

Participates in the provision of pharmaceutical care through work at a non-profit pharmacy (HealthQuest of Union County) that partners with Atrium Health.  Assists the registered pharmacist(s) in performing technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of various prescription medications. Duties are performed under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Essential Functions

• Enter, fill, and deliver medication orders for all age groups under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Answers and screens telephone calls and refers calls to a pharmacist when appropriate.
• Attends and assists with dispensing of medications during HealthQuest designated times (i.e., Monday evenings).
• Use QS1 pharmacy information system and database to prepare reports and maintain other records such as patient profiles.
• Comply with HIPAA law and Atrium Health policy on disclosing Protected Health Information.
• Ensure compliance with Pharmacy Rules and Regulations and Pharmacy Laws of the NC Board of Pharmacy; maintain required records, permits, and reports.
• Assist with the security of the pharmacy areas containing drug inventories and medications in transit; ensure proper storage requirements are met.
• Assist with ordering general pharmacy supplies and drug inventory rotation.
• Assist Pharmacist with all drug recalls and pharmacy quality assurance to ensure medication safety for all clients.

• Work with supervising Pharmacist, other Pharmacy Technicians, and volunteers.
• Assist with medication reconciliation for new and current clients.
• Monitor for the accuracy of the prescription including dosage, indication, drug interactions, and drug allergies.
• Handle computer order entry of client prescriptions independently.

Works primarily in the HealthQuest pharmacy. Requires considerable walking, standing, pushing mobile cart of 50 pounds maximum and lifting 25 pounds of material. May be required to frequently stretch, bend, squat, or kneel to perform job. Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment to minimize exposure to hazardous agents. Takes necessary precautions to avoid inadvertent needle sticks, minor cuts or bruises. Exposed to various conditions throughout the workday such as walking on hard surfaces. Must be able to perform manipulative skills such as writing, typing, and data entry into the computer. Must have use of both hands, be able to see clearly and read small type such as that on unit-dose medication packages and syringes. Must be able to speak and be understood by others to communicate effectively. Must be able to hear normal sounds with moderate background noises.  Exposure to hazards is minor.
