Overview

Assistant Director of Advanced Practice, Neonatology - Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital (Charlotte, NC)

The Assistant Director of Advanced Practice (ADAP) will help guide the neonatology division in neonatal APP strategy, workforce planning, operations, and optimization efforts to align with Levine Children's overall strategic plan and mission. The ADAP will serve as an organizational resource for neonatal APP utilization and practice across all neonatology units within Atrium Health and the Children's service line. The ADAP will partner and work closely with the neonatology division director, neonatal chief APPs, neonatology nursing leadership and administrative care leaders in decision making for the division as APP representation. Candidates must have clinical neonatology experience as an APP (NNP, PNP-AC, or PA). Additionally, a minimum of two years of leadership experience is preferred.   

Our largest NICU at Levine Children’s in Charlotte is a Level IV, 85 bed neonatal unit is comprised of a 32-bed neonatal progressive (convalescent) care nursery (NPCN) and a 53-bed neonatal intensive care nursery (NICU).  Our neonatal unit is a regional referral center offering Total Body Cooling, ECMO, CT Surgery Services and all Subspecialty Services.  Our current team of 50+ Neonatal APPs are specifically trained and proficient in the provision of neonatal care under the direct supervision of Neonatologists working for Levine Children’s Neonatology Service Line. LCH has a well-regarded pediatric residency with 36 residents who rotate through the NICU. 

Additional metro NICUs that would be included in this roles oversight are at nearby Atrium Health Levine Children's NICUs in Pineville (10 NICU beds), Union (8 beds), University (9 beds), and Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital (20 NICU beds).
 
Position Overview and Primary Functions: 
 
Full time 1.0 FTE position (60% clinical/40% admin) 

•    Defines and optimizes APP scope of practice within neonatology division alongside Director of Advanced Practice (DAP) and Division Director  
•    Works with Division Director, AVP and DAP to ensure appropriate billing and documentation across neonatology division  
•    Support regulatory compliance and onboarding for all neonatal APP teams in all locations
•    Tracks and reports neonatal APP productivity at all locations to service line leadership   
•    Develops neonatal APP scorecard and review with individual teams on standardized basis (RVU data, patient satisfaction, teammate engagement, etc.)  
•    Ensure access to CME for neonatal APP teams   
•    Standardize best practice for patient care across all NICUs and NPCN in conjunction with Division Director, medical directors, and nursing leadership  
•    Primarily responsible for APP recruitment and retention in neonatology  
•    Leads neonatal chiefs at all locations to ensure appropriate APP utilization and access, education, schedule templates, staffing strategy and APP teammate engagement on individual teams  
•    Yearly review with chief APPs of neonatal specific APP competencies, CPA and DOP for all locations  
•    Provides clinical care as neonatal APP in all locations   
•    Participates or ensures APP representation in quality committee structure
•    Neonatal APP Liaison to other subspecialties
