Atrium Health is seeking an attorney with outstanding legal qualifications and a commitment to our mission to improve health, elevate hope and advance healing - FOR ALL - to join our in-house legal department as Associate General Counsel – Hospital Operations.  The ideal candidate will have 3 - 5 years of experience in a health care organization or law firm with a health law practice.  The Associate General Counsel will report to the Atrium Health Managing Counsel – Hospital Operations and Advocacy.  The successful candidate will possess strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills; will adapt quickly to change and be willing to work collaboratively as part of a team; and will exercise sound judgment and a practical approach to solving a wide range of legal and policy issues.  


  • Assess the impact and application of federal and state health care laws and regulations on the clinical, strategic and business operations of an integrated health care delivery system, including Medicare and Medicaid conditions of participation, coverage and reimbursement; managed care; EMTALA obligations; HIPAA privacy and security; and fraud and abuse.
  • Analyze and apply state and federal laws related to medical professional practice and patient care, including licensure, scope of practice, board reporting obligations, behavioral health, patient rights and telemedicine.  
  • Prepare and review contracts, policies, and other documents to assist the business and clinical functions of Atrium Health in collaboration with internal stakeholders.   
  • Set and monitor budgets for matters involving outside counsel.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Atrium Health Managing Counsel and Chief Legal Officer.


  •  Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admittance to the Bar of at least one state (preferably North Carolina, South Carolina or Georgia). 
  • At least 3 years experience in a law firm or corporation advising health care clients preferred.
