The Electron Microscopy Technician II works preparing and processing of samples for electron microscopy. He / She should be able to work independently to translate the instructions into specific tasks to assure proper completion of assigned duties. Processing of specimens must be scheduled and organized, data collected, and digital micrographs generated. The Technician II must be able to contribute ideas to enhance the work performed for research and clinical programs.
Works in a research laboratory environment. Exposure to biohazard material and mechanical hazards. Is responsible for working in a safe manner. Must maintain professional competence as appropriate to the area of specialization.
Bachelor's Degree required. 3 years of experience in related scientific field preferred. Prefer 2 years of hands-on laboratory experience. Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy. Possesses both motivational and interpersonal skills. Must be able to adapt to new responsibilities/frequently changing environment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Certified Electron Microscopy Technician preferred. Prefer previous experience in a clinical electron microscopy lab may substitute this. Ability to calculate and formulate chemical solutions, experience with pertinent equipment, and familiarity with techniques for examining oxygen free radicals, mitochondrial function, enzymology preferred.
