Overview

Job Summary

Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, goals and objectives. Manages the overall management, planning, organizing and directing of all aspects of pharmacy operations to comply with standards set forth by regulatory organizations and integration of departmental activities in the overall organization. Acute care or home infusion pharmacy experience is strongly preferred.



Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements specific pharmacy goals and objectives on an annual basis in support of the organization's strategic plan.
  • Coordinates and integrates interdepartmental and intradepartmental services, and participates in various committees.
  • Prepares Pharmacy Department budget and recommends budgeting and purchasing of capital equipment.
  • Ensures that the pharmacy adheres to regulations set forth by the DEA and North Carolina Board of Pharmacy and maintains standards set forth by JCAHO, ASHP, OSHA and DFS.
  • Helps coordinate the implementation plan and support of decisions made by the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee and/or the Pharmacy Advisory Committee.
  • Assists in the planning of new and/or revised pharmaceutical services based on new innovations, technology and/or regulatory changes.
  • Controls total pharmacy expenses and makes recommendations of new ideas in holding these expenses under budget.
  • Submits a monthly KPI which includes expense variances, etc. Maintains submission of medication errors and other performance improvement results to the P&T Committee and PI Committees.

     

Physical Requirements

 

Requires considerable walking and standing, pushing medication cart of 50 pounds maximum and lifting materials of 20 pounds maximum. Hazardous exposure to cancer chemotherapy agents in preparation and handling. Otherwise, hazards are very minor such as minor cuts, braises and non-contaminated needle-sticks. Needs good manual finger dexterity. Must be able to hear normal sounds with moderate background noise as in answering telephone.



Education, Experience and Certifications

Master's in Pharmacy preferred, minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD in Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy. Current permanent license in NC, minimum of 4 years experience in a similar position and/or an ASHP accredited residency in hospital pharmacy plus 3 years supervisory experience.
