Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Investigations, responsible for supporting the development, implementation, maintenance, and compliance of the organization's Privacy Program which ensures the confidentiality of protected health information. Proactively initiates, leads, and resolves Privacy and Security incidents ensuring timely and thorough compliant investigation, analysis, and total resolution. Accountable for independently executing on a consistently high-volume case load while supporting the Director of Investigations and Senior Analysts. In addition, actively participates in the training, audit, oversight, and education related to Privacy and Security issues assuming ownership of role duties.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with departments such as Cybersecurity, Hospital and Practice administration, Office of General Counsel, Risk Management, Patient Identity Management, Information and Analytics Services, and Human Resources to ensure the privacy of protected health information.
  • Handles intake and investigation of privacy and security incidents as assigned, including independently conducting investigation and interviews, taking steps to mitigate privacy and security incidents, creating and maintaining proper documentation, analyzing the incidents for potential breaches, working with other departments for sanctions, communicating with patients and other third parties, and drafting correspondence and reports.
  • Identifies trends and educational opportunities related to Privacy and Security issues and recommends and develops tools to address them.
  • Tracks, manages, and presents Investigations Data and Findings to support the Privacy Program and makes recommendations on how to address trending risks.
  • Interprets and applies policy, regulation, and agency position statements; aligns privacy and security controls; and provides guidance to other teammates and leaders.
  • Supports incident response and forensics reviews to provide appropriate recommendations.


Physical Requirements

Work requires sitting for prolonged periods of time, lifting, moving reports and notebooks weighing up to 10 pounds. Must be able to bend, reach and stretch to perform responsibilities. Must be able to work under pressure and effectively meet deadlines. Must be able to operate at a fast pace, build and cultivate relationships, multi-task, effectively handle pressure situations, neutrally navigate complex situations, be both a team player and work independently, and be professional at all times.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of experience conducting investigations in a highly regulated industry is required. At least 2 years must include healthcare-related investigations, employee investigations, and/or complaint resolution investigations. Certification in Privacy and/or Security is preferred. Demonstrated job experience interfacing with the public, employees, and leadership, as well as with electronic medical records or comparable systems.
