Overview

Job Summary

Clinical position completing diagnostic audiologic evaluations for all ages with a primary focus in pediatric assessment.  Patient population may include those with complex medical histories and / or disorders.  A strong background in ABR assessment is preferred. Evaluates, plans, directs, and administers programs of audiology upon referral by the physician. Coordinates the management of adult and pediatric auditory and vestibular disorders. Performs supervisory duties.

Essential Functions

• Assessment of newborns to adults upon referral by the physician.
• Gathers and interprets data from the medical record, physician report, and / or family as evidenced by documentation
• Evaluates patients to include necessary procedures and patient education as warranted by the patient’s diagnosis and condition.
• Communicates patient’s evaluation and recommendations to physician, referral sources, clinical staff, and other disciplines to coordinate patient’s care.
• Documents evaluations, patient family education and charges.
• Interviews staff for positions, under supervision, in coordination and leadership, arranges staffing for department.
• Evaluates patients and establishes care plan to include necessary procedures and patient education as warranted by the patient's diagnosis and condition.
• Gathers and interprets data from the medical record, physician reports, patient, and/or family as evidenced by documentation.
• Communicates patient's evaluation and subsequent progress to physician, referral sources, clinical staff, and other disciplines to coordinate patient's schedule and treatment programs.
• Documents evaluations, tests, progress notes, daily treatment notes, attendance records, patient/family education, outcomes, discharge notes, and charges.
• Works with patient, family, and other clinical staff regarding discharge planning and recommends solutions to patient care problems.
• Re-evaluates patients, modifies goals and treatment plans as the patient's status changes.
• Interviews and hires staff for positions, under supervision, in coordination with leadership, arranges staffing for department and inputs/approves payroll data.

Physical Requirements

Hearing (corrected) adequate for oral / aural communication with patients, staff, family visitors etc.  Vision (corrected) adequate for reading intelligible speech and normal language / cognitive skills.  Must be able to push patients in a wheelchair or stretchers.  Lifting of patients, equipment or supplies will be required up to 20 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally.  Sitting, standing, and walking required throughout the day.  Job duties sometimes require climbing stairs, kneeling, twisting, bending; on occasion crouching, crawling and reaching overhead.  Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves, goggles, gowns and masks are sometimes required due to possible exposure to hazardous chemicals or blood and body fluids.  Work is in a fast-paced clinical environment.  Holiday work may be required.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Master’s degree in Audiology or a Clinical Doctorate from an accredited Audiology program required. NC license in Audiology required. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.
