Staff Pharmacist -HealthQuest Part Time

Overview

Job Summary

Participates in the provision of pharmaceutical care through work at a non-profit pharmacy (HealthQuest of Union County) that partners with Atrium Health.  Reviews physician orders for drug therapies and monitors therapies for appropriate drug and dosage, drug/drug, drug/food interactions, adverse medication events, formulary compliance; serves as drug information resource to physicians, nurses and other disciplines.

Essential Functions

• Prepare and dispense prescription medications for patient care in a retail pharmacy setting, participating in all aspects of pharmaceutical care that affect drug distribution and control.
• Monitor for the accuracy of the prescription including dosage, indication, drug interactions, and drug allergies.
• Counsel patients on the appropriate use of medications, advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
• Collaborate with other health professionals to monitor and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of patient drug regimens to assist with favorable patient outcomes.
• Comply with HIPAA law and Atrium Health policy on disclosing Protected Health Information.
• Assist staff with pharmaceutical manufacturers’ patient assistance programs as needed.
• Provide support and recommendations for therapeutic substitutions in the event of drug shortages or drug unavailability.
• Manage all drug recalls and pharmacy quality assurance to ensure medication safety for all patients.  
• Use QS1 computer database to prepare audit reports and maintain other records such as patient profiles.
• Ensure compliance with pharmacist–manager Rules and Regulations and Pharmacy Laws of the NC Board of Pharmacy; maintain required records, permits, and reports.
• Provide direct supervision to pharmacy technicians and volunteers.
• Oversee the security of the pharmacy areas containing drug inventories and medications in transit; ensure proper storage requirements are met.
• Assist with ordering general pharmacy supplies and drug inventory rotation.

Physical Requirements

Requires considerable walking, standing, pushing mobile cart(s) of up to 50 pounds’ maximum and lifting to 25 pounds’ maximum. Exposure to hazards is minor.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy required; PharmD preferred. Licensed in North Carolina or eligible for licensure via reciprocity required. Previous hospital experience preferred. Demonstrates competency in all aspects of medication therapy management and dispensing functions including but not limited to order entry in Cerner PharmNet system, documentation of clinical interventions, IV admixture preparation, The Joint Commission Standards compliance. Prefer retail experience and QS/1 pharmacy software is helpful. Previous hospital experience preferred
