Overview

Job Summary
Develops and applies technology, methods and training across a wide array of disciplines and processes, with the goal of improving quality and efficiency. Scope of responsibility spans the entire clinical laboratory value stream, including Test menu/dictionary, equipment implementation, results reporting, technical consultation


Essential Functions

  • Development and implementation of technical methods for their clinical area of expertise.

  • Responsible for standardization of technical methods and laboratory testing technology across all facilities.

  • Evaluate and recommend new equipment. Recommend design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and processes.

  • Apply knowledge of specimen processing and clinical interpretation to the research and development of new tests, techniques, and procedures.

  • Benchmark leading providers of clinical pathology services nationwide for new approaches; confer with vendors regarding industry trends and new technology; solicit observations and input from front-line staff and physicians.

  • Design and conduct experiments to evaluate new methods with the goal of furthering the scope, quality, and efficiency of clinical laboratory services.

  • Lead the Metro System-wide performance improvement teams.

  • Oversee and coordinate the daily flow of specimens and information throughout the Core Laboratory. Achieve outstanding teamwork across the various disciplines within the Core Laboratory.

  • Improve quality and efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.

  • Leads the development of a long-range strategic plan relative to services, programs, human resources, capital needs, and other resource requirements.

  • Develops an annual operations plan with departmental goals, departmental dashboards, key activities, time lines, and resource requirements clearly defined and understood by all teammates and other stakeholders.

  • Develop and implement annual operating and capital budgets.

Physical Requirements
Works in a busy environment around physicians, technologists, and visitors. Must be able to actively walk and navigate throughout the work area around equipment. Works in an area which contains infectious materials, chemical hazards, and fire and mechanical hazards. Works in an analytical, physical and managerial environment. May be required to stoop, reach, and lift light (20 lbs.) to moderately heavy (50 lbs.) loads.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelor Degree in Medical Technology, business, manufacturing, or related field is required. Master’s degree in Health Administration, Business, Science or another related field is required. A minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant leadership experience is required. Can include Group Leader experience. Experience in a large multi-hospital system or reference laboratory (Ex: Quest/Labcorp) with test method and equipment standardization preferred. Must have extensive skills in Microsoft Office Applications.
