Job Summary

Conducts technical research procedures and provides support to primary investigators, surgical fellows, surgical residents, and the laboratory manager.

Department Specific:

This position is for a research technician primarily responsible for Mass Cytometry projects within the Pediatric Oncology Translational Research Laboratory. Experienced laboratory technician needed for a position focused on research utilizing Cytof, experience in flow cytometry or Cytof essential with an understanding of cancer biology and inflammation research. This position will be involved in collaboration with external researchers utilizing this core instrument.

Essential Functions

• Monitors care of research animals, assists with surgical and technical procedures, maintains cultures.
• Supports animal surgical procedures on animal models and monitors care for animals.
• Provides technical support to the research director, research investigators, and laboratory manager.
• Performs data collection, storage, and analysis, including operation, use of and troubleshooting of equipment and software programs.
• Provides technical support in analysis, preparation, and storage of departmental research data.
• Updates laboratory and surgical procedures as needed.
• Performs routine and specific laboratory functions, monitors and maintains laboratory analytical equipment and supplies.
• Assists in instructing personnel in the proper use of laboratory equipment and procedures.
• Drafts, edits, amends and renews IACUC protocols.

   

Physical Requirements

 

Works in a fast-paced office and laboratory. Requires long periods of standing, sitting, walking, and some lifting. Interacts with persons at several professional levels, including technicians, students, residents, surgical fellows, faculty, and other support staff. Requires handling of laboratory animals. Responsibility to work in a safe manner.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Minimum of Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent combination of experience and education. Additional graduate level training in Immunology and Cell Biology preferred. Master's Degree of Science preferred. Minimum 5 - 7 years documented experience.
