Overview
Job Summary
Accountable for surgical instruments needed for cases within six service line specialties. Decontaminates, assembles, inspects, packages, sterilizes, stores, distributes, and tracks instruments using quality and infection prevention standards. Trains peers on complex instrumentation, serves as a preceptor and informal educator. Serves as a shift lead in the absence of a supervisor or coordinator.
Essential Functions
• Assist the operating room staff in preparing the OR suite for surgery by verifying instruments trays needed prior to the start of every case
• Makes sure case flow during the day is monitored while informing SPD personnel in advance of any possible or emergent needs. Must be able to resolve upcoming issues or offer any alternatives when necessary in complex situations
• Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisor, coworkers, operating room, and physicians
• Ability to multi-task projects while planning and organizing
• Flexible and self-motivated
• Completes all documentation as required for inventory, equipment request, instrument sets, data, etc
