The Nursing Supervisor (full-time, days) coordinates the supervision of patient care/nursing personnel management to provide sufficient/competent nursing staff and optimal/quality patient care and nursing practice. Assists members of the nursing staff in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care and coordinates patient admission, bed placement, and transfer.

Education / Experience: 

Associates in Nursing required; Bachelors preferred.
2 years Clinical Nursing required

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: 

Registered Nurse licensure from the State of North Carolina
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required

Job Specific Duties:

Scheduling & Staffing: Assesses/plans for adequate staffing, assignment, and utilization of nursing personnel based on budgeted hours, staff availability/competency and patient acuity. Reviews changes in patient classification and documents staffing adjustments for adequate coverage.

Leadership: Assists unit coordinators/charge nurses with any unfamiliar or new nursing procedures, treatments, or equipment as needed/requested. Assists unit coordinators/charge nurses and hospital personnel in managing/ documenting personnel disciplinary problems/actions as requested or needed according to situation. Assists hospital personnel on assigned rotation with employee health problems and/or accidents as needed. Assists and participates in performance assessment and improvement activities as needed or requested.

Teamwork: Assists Unit Coordinators in assessing/utilizing/managing nursing and float staff on assigned rotation. Collaborates with nursing staff when requested or needed in assessing more complex patient conditions, interpreting physician orders/diagnostic reports, and consulting physicians. Collaborates with others regarding admitting, discharging, and transferring patients as needed or requested for bed placement in emergent/non-emergent situations. Collaborates with department managers in problem-solving related to patient and personnel concerns.

Emergency Response: Responds to all emergency codes and reports and documents any needs/ problems related to staff readiness, response, and competency. Receives and responds to incoming calls from nursing personnel, families, news media, police, and others as indicated. Calls Administrator on-call/hospital staff as needed in emergency/severe weather/disaster situations and facility problems. Investigates and assists personnel with security incidents and missing/ damaged personal belongings. Reports to Security, Administrator on-call, or Director Risk Management as needed. Investigates patient, family, visitor, employee variances or complaints, and assists staff in management/documentation. Reports to Inpatient Administration, on-call Administrator, Director Risk Management as needed.

Strategic Planning & Goal Setting: Participates in planning and implementing goals and action plans related to patient care and nursing practice in Clinical Nursing specialties and subspecialties. Participates in the planning and implementation of new/changing programs and services for meeting patient care/nursing staff needs. Identifies and documents patient care, nursing personnel, and interdepartmental problems, consulting with appropriate Nursing Director and CNO. Submits input to CNO and Nursing Director in proposing new or revised policies and procedures.

Rounding: Conducts nursing rounds on all nursing units.

Supplies & Equipment: Dispenses supplies/equipment from emergency stock or other departments to nursing units as needed.

Committee Participation: Serves on nursing and/or hospital committee when asked or when appropriate.

Meetings & Continuing Education: Participates in a minimum of 75% of monthly department manager and required nursing leadership meetings. Attends/participates in continuing education programs (mandatory programs - 100% annual attendance).

Reporting: Reports pertinent clinical or management information obtained through meetings, committees, readings, and educational activities to colleagues and other staff as indicated. Reports pertinent patient, departmental, or hospital information to Nursing Supervisor(s) at shift change. Records pertinent information on Nursing Supervisor Communication form. Reports pertinent patient and departmental information to Director(s)/CNO (voice mail, e-mail, oral) at shift change.

Pay Range

$43.30 - $64.95
