Job Summary

Supports and functionsunder the direct supervision and control of a Physician and/or Advanced Practice Practitioner. Assists in maintaining a clean, safe patient environment and performs job responsibilities in a safe manner in various community settings. Maintains clinical and professional occupational competencies as appropriate to the needs of the patient population served.This includes tasks such as patient intake at visit, exceptional patient care, documentation, vaccine and medication administration, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.

This position will follow a seasonal calendar allowing teammates the ability to elect to furlough during non-seasonal periods or select alternative assignments in Atrium clinical departments during these times.

Essential Functions

  • Exemplify caring and compassionate customer service to create an excellent patient experience.
  • Provide exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to interact with patients and families in a wide variety of sensitive situations.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills and decisive judgment in an often-hectic environment and possess the ability to work cohesively on a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Operates telemedicine equipment (including digital peripherals) as instructed by remote healthcare provider.
  • Follows patient intake/rooming work policies in place at the community locations and maintains examination areas, like in office procedures.
  • Ensures virtual equipment and PHI is secured and transferred per Atrium Health policies and procedures.
  • Assists with performing screening and treatments by gathering information related to health maintenance and documenting patient care.
  • Utilizes standard precautions, complies with policies and other Regulatory Agency standards.
  • Assists with patient inquiries for prescription refills, appointment scheduling, and referral authorization.
  • Completes CLIA approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards.
  • Conduct Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order. Performs Quality Control and maintenance for Point of Care temporary testing location procedures, as applicable.
  • Perform technical tasks with appropriate training, such as specimen collection and transport.
  • Performs venipuncture. May be required to assist with collection of specimens of body fluids such as urine and blood for laboratory testing. Completes lab requisitions and prepares specimens for pick-up.

  • Ensures ordered laboratory and diagnostic tests are tracked and logged, and that the care team is presented with test results.
  • Monitors inventory and stock medications, narcotics, and emergency medications/equipment
  • Coordinates follow-up visits as needed.
  • Must possess valid driver's license.
  • Position requires reliable personal transportation to travel to multiple care site locations daily.
  • Candidates are required to have and maintain a personal mobile phone for communications.

Physical Requirements

Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak and understand English in good understandable terms. Must have manual and finger dexterity. Physical abilities testing required.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Recognized/certified as a CMA or RMA by one of the following National Organizations: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Health Career Association (NHA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP).
  • Must possess one of the following:

a) Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

b) Intermediate EMT or Paramedic Program with 3 years prior clinical experience required.

c) Structured military training which is clinical in nature per DD214.

d) Graduate of an Accredited School of Professional Nursing.

e) 3 years on the job training and successful completion of AH Medical Group approved competency assessment.

  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Cardiac Life Support HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Must possess or obtain Telemedicine Certificate within 6 months of employment

Patient Population Served

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served. Patient care environments may include community, school, and/or residential settings.

  • Will limit access to protected health information (PHI) to the information necessary to do the job.
  • Will share information only on a need-to-know basis for work purposes.
  • Access to verbal, written, and electronic PHI for this job has been determined based on job level and job responsibility within the organization. Computerized access to PHI for this job has been determined as described above and is controlled via user ID and password.

Transporting patient documents will keep them secure per policy.

Pay Range

$21.45 - $32.20
