Overview

Primary Purpose

Administers, coordinates, and oversees activities of Union Emergency Medical Services (UEMS) logistics, fleet, and support services. Emphasis areas of responsibility include complex emergency medical services (EMS) supply chain accountability, security and reliability including durable and disposable medical equipment, purchasing, contracting, and maintenance. Manages department inventory and supply controls. Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders and vendors for the provision of services related to apparatus and equipment. Participates in, advises and executes contracts for logistics and supply chain requirements.

Major Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains effective and collaborative relationships with internal and external customers and clients; ensures compliance with the UEMS, Advocate Health (AH), and Union County Government (UC) purchasing and billing policies.
  • Collaborates with outside vendors to order and take delivery of new and remounted chassis, motor vehicles, UTVs/ATVs, ambulances, and non-motorized support vehicles.
  • Schedules and completes new and remounted vehicle titling, licensing and inspections to include NCOEMS, NCDMV/NCDOT, USDOT and other appliable governing bodies verification.
  • Collaborates with outside vendors to identify, establish, and sustain aggressive preventative maintenance programs. Identifies future UEMS capital and non-capital needs to maximize the life of vehicles, logistics facilities, and durable equipment. 
  • Establishes and evaluates internal controls and inventory control systems. Maintains accountability systems for all UEMS-owned, purchased, issued, leased, or shared equipment. Maintains primary responsibility for vehicle, RFID, UEMS asset tag, AH asset tag, UC asset tag, and other tracking systems
  • Ensures vehicle, equipment, and supply integrity along with accountability and readiness for use; creates effective mechanisms to ensure the timely and accurate deployment of necessary supplies to field crews in static and dynamic EMS deployment models.
  • Maintains effective relationships with vendors and suppliers, ensuring accountability; evaluates vehicles, products and equipment in and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Coordinates with the UEMS Operations Manager (Deputy Chief Education) to review purchasing specifications for educational equipment, adjuncts, and contracts.
  • Coordinates with the UEMS Operations Manager (Deputy Chief Operations) to review purchasing specifications for clinical equipment, vehicles, and contracts.
  • Coordinates with the UEMS Director (Chief) on grant application and award management involving logistics. 
  • Operates as an integral part of the UEMS management team and participates in strategic initiatives to advance the department and improve or streamline logistics and supply chain. Participates in the UEMS department budget planning process for capital and non-capital expenditures
  • Manages the UEMS vehicle and portable radio programs, templates, and accountability. Represents UEMS on Union County and UASI communications committee meetings and with vendors.
  • Supervises UEMS logistics personnel and coordinates department logistics to ensure the uninterrupted, timely and accurate deployment of supplies, equipment and support services for emergency, non-emergency, community risk reduction, outreach, and state / federal deployment request activities
  • Maintains ability to participate in sustained local and regional emergency logistical response efforts as requested
  • Performs other duties as directed or required

Minimum Job Requirements

Associate's degree in a related discipline

Certification / License

North Carolina EMT-Basic (or National Registry reciprocity eligible) Incident Command Systems (ICS) 100, 200, 700, 800. Must obtain ICS 300 and 400 within 12 months of hire

Work Experience

Three years' experience in high volume emergency services or similar logistics roles

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Demonstrable experience leading logistics and supply projects from start to finish.

Preferred Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline

Certification / License

North Carolina EMT-Paramedic level (or National Registry reciprocity eligible)

Experience

Five years' experience in high volume emergency services or similar logistics roles

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

In-depth experience utilizing Operative IQ, RFID, and GeoTab or similar platforms. Microsoft Office literacy is essential. Superior written and verbal skills are central to this position
