Overview

Primary Purpose 

Facilitates educational experiences to enhance student learning; teaches, advises students; curriculum development; student retention; active committee involvement; professional development; participates in budget and institutional effectiveness processes; services to the greater community in the clinical environment. 

Major Responsibilities 

  • Implements current, traditional, and innovative teaching methodologies in accordance with objectives.
  • Prepares theory presentation based on course outline and objectives.
  • Participates in comprehensive evaluation process for courses, students, and curriculum.
  • Makes recommendations for improvement of identified areas of the curriculum needing change.
  • Participates in curriculum and course planning, implements curriculum as designed, and makes recommendations for revision.
  • Participates in development of syllabi under the direction of the Program Chair in accordance with curriculum design.
  • Assumes responsibilities for maintaining office hours and serving as resource to teammates.
  • Identifies orientation needs and works with the Program Chair to arrange.
  • Makes recommendations for purchase of lab supplies, equipment, books, journals, and multimedia software.
  • Utilizes computer and teaching equipment competently.
  • Identifies resources/classes needed in annual goals.
  • Develops knowledge of pedagogy, academic discipline, and as appropriate, clinical profession including scholarship activities.
  • Contributes to the improvement of the College community through service to the College and broader community.

Minimum Job Requirements 

Education: Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Respiratory Therapy required from a nationally and Commission of Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) institution preferred. 

Certification / Registration / License: Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).  Current or eligible North Carolina Respiratory Care Practitioner license required. American Heart Associate BLS for Healthcare providers certification required. 

Work Experience: Minimum of two years of respiratory therapy teaching experience in an accredited respiratory care program. Minimum four (4) years' experience as Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care. 

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers, applicable software, and Internet - dependent on the needs of course delivery.
  • Normal or corrected auditory and visual acuity.
