Overview

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Responsible for overseeing overall retail pharmacy services, ensuring the provision of high-quality clinical pharmaceutical care. This role involves developing and implementing clinical programs, managing pharmacy staff, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to optimize patient therapeutic outcomes. Oversees retail pharmacy team members, coordinates schedules and workflows, and ensures the team meets short-term performance goals.

Major Responsibilities

  • Clinical Program Management: Plan, implement, and evaluate clinical pharmacy programs to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care.
  • Patient Care: Provide direct pharmaceutical care to patients, including medication therapy management and patient counseling.
  • Staff Supervision.  Supervise retail pharmacy team members.  Coordinate schedules and workflows for the team.  Provide daily direction to the team, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.  Focus on team completion of assignments and being accountable for achieving short-term performance goals and priorities.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement treatment plans and protocols.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including those of the DEA, FDA, and state pharmacy boards.
  • Education and Training: Educate and train pharmacy staff, residents, and students in clinical pharmacy practices and principles.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and service delivery.
  • Approve hiring, termination, promotion, demotion, or pay decisions.  Approve discipline and corrective action.  Conduct and provide input for performance evaluations.  Responsible for budget accountability.  Oversee policy development and adherence.
  • Selects, coaches, and develops team. Sets clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manages performance by recognizing achievement, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary. Recommends hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that people actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor's or Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited school

Certification / Registration / License

Pharmacist license issued by the state where the teammate practices

Immunization certification

Market-specific medication administration certification

Work Experience

Minimum 2 years of work-related experience in pharmacy

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Advanced level knowledge and strategic direction of pharmaceutical services

Exceptional interpersonal and team-building skills

Strong decision-making and critical thinking skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products

Strong aptitude in human resource management

Ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously and effectively

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Requires considerable walking and standing, pushing medication carts, and lifting materials up to 20 pounds.

Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment to minimize exposure to hazardous agents.

Must be able to perform manipulative skills such as writing, typing, and data entry into the computer.

Good manual finger dexterity and ability to hear normal sounds with moderate background noise.

Must be able to read small type such as that on unit-dose medication packages.

Must be able to speak and be understood by others to communicate effectively.

This position requires travel and therefore will be exposed to weather and road conditions.

May be exposed to chemical hazards and required to wear protective clothing as necessary.

Ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods.
