Overview

Job Summary: 

Performs management functions related to technical staff. Manages critical support processes vital to pharmacy operations including unit dose, sterile products, and pharmacy/lab courier service. Communicates with unit/department managers regarding technical pharmacy issues. Supervises pharmacy technicians (I, II, & 111) and pharmacy/lab couriers.

 

Essential Functions:

Supervises technical staff for unit dose and courier service.

Sterile products service.

Interviews, hires and evaluates technicians and couriers.

Develops and maintains procedures for technical or logistical processes. Ensures smooth and efficient operations for unit dose, sterile products, drug transport and delivery to care areas, drug storage and other technical processes.

Monitors workflow in responsible areas and adjusts resources as needed. Maintains productivity, benchmarking and professional services monitoring and reporting information and ensures accurate reporting to pharmacy administration. Performs independent analysis of trends and adjusts service accordingly.

Works as technician I and II reinforcing the importance of teamwork.

Monitors drug usage and inventory levels throughout the pharmacy department and maintains proper levels throughout the hospital to maintain patient care, while tracking expirations with respect to minimizing financial losses.

 

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

Must be a High School or GED Diploma Graduate. Completion of 2 years at an accredited college or equivalent work experience. 

Completion of at least one course of algebra (or higher math equivalent), and one course of chemistry or biology.

Minimum 8 years as pharmacy technician or 5 minimum years with 3 years experience supervising 10 or more employees.

Certified Pharmacy Technician and registration with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy is required.

IV experience and hospital experience is preferred.
