Overview

JOB SUMMARY: The Assessment Coordinator is responsible for the planning, administration, and continuous improvement of assessments within the MD program. This role ensures accurate, secure, and timely execution of assessment-related tasks and serves as a critical liaison between students, faculty, and administrators. The Assessment Coordinator also contributes to data analysis, reporting, and compliance with institutional and accreditation standards, supporting the overall goal of delivering high-quality, data-informed education.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Health, or a related field OR two years of equivalent experience in academic medicine strongly preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan, schedule, and administer exams across assigned MD program phases (M1, M2, M3, M4), ensuring compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.
  • Assist in managing assessment platforms (e.g., ExamSoft, NBME), including setup, deployment, and troubleshooting.
  • Oversee accommodations for students with special testing needs in collaboration with appropriate offices.
  • Coordinate logistical details for in-person and online assessments, ensuring a seamless testing experience.
  • Maintain and secure student assessment data, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Conduct statistical analyses of assessments, including item performance reviews and exam outcomes.
  • Generate detailed reports for faculty, course directors, and institutional leadership to inform curriculum and assessment improvements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for faculty, course directors, and staff regarding assessment policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate post-assessment reviews with students and provide constructive feedback as needed.
  • Work closely with cross-campus teams to align assessment practices and maintain consistency between the Winston-Salem and Charlotte campuses.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in assessment workflows and recommend solutions.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of assessment-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in accreditation-related activities, ensuring compliance with standards such as LCME.
  • Provide training to faculty and staff on the use of assessment tools and platforms.
  • Mentor junior staff or new hires within the department as needed.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience working with assessment platforms (e.g., ExamSoft, NBME) preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and administrators.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Skilled problem solver who can work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong PC background, including experience with spreadsheets and data analysis tools.
