Job Description:
A one-year, non-ACGME accredited fellowship within the department of Radiology with focus on breast imaging.
Requirements:
1. Successful completion of a diagnostic radiology residency.
2. Potential to obtain a license to practice medicine in North Carolina.
3. Approval and successful onboarding from Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and the Department of Radiology.
Job Details:
During the Women’s Imaging Fellowship, time will be shared in the breast imaging department in the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (CCC), the Wake Forest Baptist Imaging sites in Winston and Kernersville, and the Clemmons site. Hours usually run from 8:00 – 5:00.
• Screening: Batch read screening mammograms performed the day before.
• Diagnostics, CCC: When on the diagnostic rotation, the fellow and the residents are responsible for diagnostic mammograms/ultrasounds, same day screeners (from the midlevels’ breast surgery clinic), procedures, and breast MRI exams. Rad/path correlations and second opinion outside reads are also the responsibility of the residents/fellows on diagnostics.
• Diagnostics, Clemmons: Occasionally, the fellow may rotate at the Clemmons location when diagnostic exams are being performed (Tuesdays and Thursdays). The fellow is responsible for the diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds performed that day. The fellow will work under the supervision of an attending on site.
• Wake Forest Baptist Outpatient Imaging: Diagnostic examinations are performed at this location every weekday except for Wednesdays. Screener examinations are performed daily. The fellows are responsible for the diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds performed when they are here. Additionally, the fellows should preview screeners as time permits. At this site, the radiologists are responsible for overseeing patients receiving contrast. So, the fellows may be asked to care for patients having contrast reactions. The fellows will be working under the supervision of an attending on site.
• Misc. responsibilities: The fellows generally perform all of the MRI guided biopsies. MRI biopsies are currently scheduled on Wednesday and Friday mornings at CCC MRI. Additionally, Tuesday afternoon Savi Scout localizations are typically performed by the fellows.
• Protocoling: The fellows should protocol all procedures at least a day in advance. Attendings are available to help with questions.
Conference Responsibilities
Fellows are responsible for presenting at the following conferences, including during elective time (unless covered by a co-fellow).
1. Tumor Board: The fellows are responsible for presenting imaging at the Breast Care Center Conference Wednesday at 12:00 – 1:00 pm.
2. BCC: The fellows are also responsible for presenting at the Friday 8:00 am tumor board conference.
3. Friday Noon Tumor Board: Breast tumor board occurs at noon on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month. It is the fellows’ responsibility to present at the conference.
4. Resident conferences: The fellows will be required to give 1-2 resident conferences. Even if not presenting, they should attend the breast imaging related resident conferences.
Additional Experiences
1. Scholarly Activity: The fellows are encouraged to do a scholarly activity of their choosing during their fellowship year.
2. OR experience: The fellows can spend some time in the OR with the breast surgeons and see the following procedures: lumpectomy, SLN mapping, mastectomy, and reconstruction.
3. Radiation Oncology experience: You can spend time shadowing the breast radiation oncologist. You can see one of each of the following exams during that time.
a. Breast radiation treatment
b. Simulation CT
c. New patient consult
