Overview
Our Critical Care Advanced Practice Providers (APP) work in collaboration with critical care attending physicians to manage patients in Specialty Intensive Care Units. Responsibilities include physical assessment and management of a broad range of critical illnesses; performing and assisting with common critical care procedures to include insertion of vascular catheters for central venous access, dialysis, arterial line placement and monitoring, endotracheal intubation. Clinical duties encompass comprehensive care of the critically ill patient starting with initial resuscitation and management, continuing with the coordination of clinical care between intensivist teams and multiple consulting teams, counseling patients and their families on the details of their illness, care and decision making process, concluding with patients/family preparation for discharge from the ICU. Our APPs serve as leaders in collaboration and education for all disciplines of the ICU staff including nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy and nutrition services. Our APP critical care services work in parallel with ACGME accredited residency and fellowship training programs, with opportunities for cooperation and sharing of resources and education. This position is for the Winston Salem campus critical care service and also will be credentialed at Atrium's Wake Forest Baptist Lexington and High Point campuses.
