JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Pediatrics at Wake Forest University School of Medicine has a growing research portfolio focused on social determinants of health, obesity, health equity, and many subspeciality areas. We collaborate across the medical center and the Atrium/Advocate Enterprise in child-focused research. As child health research grows, there is a need to expand our current research footprint to include investigators and clinicians at Levine Children’s Hospital and the Charlotte campus of Wake Forest University School of Medicine. 

The Program Director will play a pivotal role by providing strategic leadership and oversight for several key areas, including the management of institutionally-supported research centers (the Center for Prevention Science in Child and Family Health), submission of Program/Project grants to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other funding agencies, coordination of research activities across both campus, development of research education curriculum for subspecialty fellowships, and establishment of community and stakeholder advisory boards. The successful candidate will have a strong background in research administration, grant management, and program oversight, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Hybrid Schedule: Minimum 3 days in office (Monday-Wednesday), based in Winston-Salem.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree with three years of progressive and applicable experience in the area to be served.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Oversee the administrative management of an Institutionally-Supported Research Center, including monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of process and implementing improvements as needed. 
  2. Coordinate with Vice Chairs of Research in Pediatrics to ensure alignment of goals with Wake Forest University School of Medicine initiatives and objectives, and with department clinical activities.
  3. Lead the preparation, submission, and management of Center-driven institutional Team grant awards being submitted to large funding agencies (i.e. NIH, PCORI).
  4. Coordinate with researchers and administrative staff to ensure timely and accurate submissions for grant proposals.
  5. Serve as the Administrative lead to the CTIS, the Chairs of Pediatrics in Winston-Salem and Charlotte, and to cross-appointment pediatric research faculty across Advocate Health. 
  6. Oversee research staff in the department of pediatrics, and facilitate training, development, and compliance. 
  7. Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including researchers, funding agencies, and community partners.
  8. Facilitate communication and collaboration across various Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Advocate Health research initiatives and find opportunities for intersection points, particularly in regards to coordination of child-focused research across the Advocate Enterprise. 
  9. Contribute to the strategic planning process for child-focused research across Advocate Health. 
  10. Prepare and present reports on program activities, outcomes, and financial status to the Vice Chairs and Chairs of Pediatrics, and to other leadership and stakeholders as it pertains to child health research.
  11. Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein
