Overview

Job Summary

Coordinates, directs and assists in the planning and delivery of quality forensic nursing care and evidence collection in accordance with the standards of care and practice, protocols, and facility policy and procedures in a timely, cost effective manner.



Essential Functions

  • Develops, implements and maintains policies and procedures that guide and support the provisions and coordination of forensic services.
  • Directs the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of the community guidelines.
  • Communicates significant information to other persons, including collaborating agencies, responsible for, or involved in, the care of the patient / victim.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other clinical disciplines in determining patients' needs for nursing care and in treatment planning.
  • Assists the designated leader in the selection, development and retention of forensic nurse team members.
  • Provides leadership and coordination in planning identified educational needs for the Forensic nursing team members.

Physical Requirements

General hospital environment with frequent exposure to chemicals, pathogens and patient blood and body fluids. Environment is climate controlled. Frequent moderate lifting, pulling, pushing and carrying. Frequent walking, standing, stooping and reaching. Business travel via public or private transportation required, i.e., car or plane. Must be able to travel throughout hospital campus and community agencies.



Education, Experience and Certifications

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. License to practice as Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Completion of BLS. 2 years experience as Registered Nurse in an Emergency Room or critical care setting. SANE training, SANE-A and FNE certification. Minimum of 30 hours continuing education annually. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) from AHA required.
