Overview

Oversees the daily operations the Cardiac Ultrasound department, ensuring quality and efficiency, while also managing staff, implementing policies, an overseeing training and development that will lead our Imaging Team in Cardiology to provide excellence in patient care!

Primary Purpose

Functions as a highly experienced sonographer, and is responsible for the overall management of the sonography department. Role and responsibilities extend beyond those of a Staff or Lead sonographer and are focused on providing leadership to ensure the delivery of safe and efficient patient care. Activities performed are in accordance with facility policies and procedure and applicable professional standards. Directs the delivery of quality patient care and collaborates in the design and achievement of the scope and direction of the service area within a responsible framework reflective of social, economic, regulatory and legislative trends impacting healthcare.     

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Satisfactory completion of an accredited program of Cardiovascular/Cardiopulmonary Technology or The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or a Nursing Degree
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) certification from American Heart Association
  • 3 years’ progressive management experience to include budget and operational responsibilities preferred. 1 year of healthcare supervisory experience.

Major Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care.  
  • Functions as a technical or clinical leader/expert in Sonography. 
  • Collaborates with Cardiac Sonographer Educator to ensure that the appropriate accreditation is secured and maintained. 
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services.  
  • Collaborates with leadership in recommending enough qualified and competent persons to provide care.  
  • Assists in determining the qualifications and competence of department team members who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners.   
  • Assesses and improves the department's performance and identities unit goals.  
  • Provides orientation, in-service training, mentoring and professional development for team members.  
  • Provides oversight for the staff continuing education program to ensure professional knowledge, expertise, and skills are maintained. 
  • Provides input into the development of an operating and capital budget to meet patient and departmental needs.
  • Ensures appropriate equipment is available and is responsible for maintenance and quality control procedures to determine equipment operates at optimal levels to ensure patient safety.  
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served
  • Will limit access to protected health information (PHI) to the information reasonably necessary to do the job.  
  • Will share information only on a need to know basis for work purposes.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Frequent light lifting and carrying of up to 20 lbs.
  • Moderate lifting, pushing and pulling up to and more than 200 lbs.
  • Must be able to travel throughout hospital campus and off site properties
  • General hospital office environment with exposure to hazardous materials and pathogens
  • Environment is climate controlled
  • Subject to long and irregular hours
