Overview

Primary Purpose:
Trains, mentors, and orients team members and dietetic interns. Plays an active role in education, leadership, and quality improvement initiatives. Independently places feeding tubes and performs body composition/metabolic testing as needed. Collaborates with the healthcare team to provide high-quality nutritional care across all age groups and diverse populations. Assesses patient nutrition needs, delivers medical nutrition therapy, and contributes to departmental goals and projects.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Trains, orients, and mentors team members and dietetic interns.
  • Independently places feeding tubes following hospital policy.
  • Conducts body composition and metabolic testing.
  • Participates in education, leadership, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Adheres to hospital and department policies, promoting a positive work environment.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, staff, and caregivers to ensure excellent service and team collaboration.
  • Maintains Sodexo standards with minimum Gold Check score of silver.
  • Assesses patients' nutrition needs using physical assessments and evidence-based practices.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and clinical programs to improve patient outcomes.
  • Uses up-to-date nutritional knowledge to provide competent medical nutrition therapy.
  • Supports department and hospital goals to improve patient care services and outcomes.
  • Provides nutrition education to staff, patients, caregivers, and the community.
  • Ensures age-appropriate nutrition care for all patient populations.
  • Provides competent nutritional care for transplant patients, meeting hospital and regulatory standards.
  • Completes outpatient documentation and billing promptly to support hospital standards.
  • Collaborates to minimize no-shows and optimize clinic efficiency.
Minimum Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or related field required.
  • Bachelor’s degree accepted if licensed before January 1, 2024.

Certification/License:

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Active NC Board of Dietetics/Nutrition license required.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years.

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with medical staff, patients, and teams.
  • Computer proficiency.
