The Wake Forest Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is a leading research institution focused on advancing clinical and translational science through innovative research and strategic partnerships. Supported by a $5 million annual infrastructure grant from the National Institutes of Health, the WF CTSI plays a crucial role in fulfilling the research mission of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, which serves as the Academic Core of Advocate Health. Our mission is to improve health outcomes by rapidly translating research discoveries into clinical practice. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Program Director to join our team and oversee critical functions related to the CTSI’s Community and Stakeholder Engagement Program.

Job Summary:

The Program Director will play a pivotal role in the Wake Forest CTSI by providing strategic leadership and oversight for the Community and Stakeholder Engagement Program. The Program Director position will dually report to the CTSI’s Administrative Director and the Program’s Faculty Director. The position will assure the success of all its programs through monitoring activities, leading improvement initiatives, addressing issues as they arise, and developing programs and activities that specifically accelerate Clinical and Translational Science research focused on conditions that affect rural, minoritized, and other underserved populations. The overarching responsibilities of this position will be in support of the Module Faculty Director and Associate Directors, the Administrative Director of the CTSI, and managing other module staff.

Essential Functions:

  1. Works closely with the CTSI Administrative Director and Faculty Director to manage strategic planning processes, establish and achieve long-range goals, and ensure implementation of strategic business plans that are aligned with the institution’s vision, strategic plans, and goals.
  2. Assists in the development of educational and training resources for clinical and research professionals on best practices for patient and community engagement and recruitment and retention methods for enrolling underserved populations.
  3. Facilitates the administrative aspects of reporting for the CTSA’s Community and Stakeholder Engagement Module, including preparation of annual reporting, preparation for External and Internal Advisory Committee Meetings, and other formal meetings, as requested. This is done in direct collaboration with the module’s Faculty Leaders.
  4. Organizes patient/stakeholder/community advisory board meetings in coordination with the appropriate Faculty Directors and manages communication between the boards, the Community and Stakeholder Engagement module, and the CTSI as a whole.
  5. Coordinates with our CTSI Evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement Program to manage outcome evaluation tools and systems to determine module effectiveness.
  6. Works with individual project teams to ensure adherence to timelines and reporting on project and program milestones for activities that fall within the module and across the CTSI, as necessary.
  7. Oversees spending of budget monies associated with the module, including supporting the planning and ensuring the module meets fiscal requirements and monitors expenditures.
  8. Keeps faculty leaders informed with detailed and accurate reports or presentations.
  9. Responsible for handling numerous personnel matters, including reviewing and approving all hiring, firing, compensation, and evaluation decisions within range of responsibilities. Implements institutional policies related to all phases of personnel activity, including recruitment, interviewing, compensation, benefits, orientation, performance evaluations, promotions, transfers, and terminations. Transmits and interprets institutional policies to direct reports. Ensures appropriate training of employees. May be asked to write job descriptions, enter into discussions with compensation to determine grades for new positions, annual rates of pay for new hires, increases for employees who are promoted, and equity increases.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
  11. Strengthen, expand and institutionalize existing community stakeholders and system partnerships (i.e. public and private health organizations, community-based partners, academic institutions, individual and group health care providers, faith-based organizations, Federally Qualified and Community Health Clinics).
  12. Supports staff, scientist and trainee training/development in the context of Community Engagement (CE) and Community Engaged Research (CEnR) in underserviced and diverse communities.
  13. Acts as an agent to increase collaboration within the CTSI to leverage and enhance partnerships between other CTSA sites and programs, and community-based organizations aligned with its mission, vision, and values.

Education/Experience: 

Bachelors degree with three years of progressive and applicable experience in the area to be served.
