Overview

Job Summary: Provides clinical leadership for the development and monitoring of Burn Care Services at AHWFB in accordance with the hospital regulatory standards and American Burn Association verification standards.  Responsibilities include integration of burn care with the OR (burn), Trauma ICU, PICU, Pediatric Trauma Program, Post Surgical Critical Care Unit, Burn ICU, Burn Rehabilitation, Burn Unit, Burn/Plastics Unit, Life Support Education, Emergency Department, Air Care, Ancillary Services, referring facilities and pre-hospital EMS agencies. 

What You'll Need: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required or equivalent RN experience in burn care with five years’ experience in Level I Trauma Center required. Demonstrated leadership/management experience required. Demonstrated leadership, management, education, and performance improvement experience required. Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of North Carolina.  Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.  Advanced Burn Life Support certification (ABLS) and DMEP (disaster course) within 1 year of hire.   National certification in Emergency (CEN), Critical Care (CCRN), Trauma (TCRN), Burn (CBRN) or Flight nursing required. 

What You'll Do: Ensures short- and long-term goals are met through the development of performance standards,  capitalizing on employee strengths and supporting the Mission, Vision, Core Values and Evidence-based practice within Burn Services in collaboration with DON, Program Manager and Burn Medical Director. Collaborates with Burn Performance Improvement Coordinators, Registrars, Injury Prevention/Outreach  Coordinator, Providers and Aftercare Coordinator on burn care.   Maintains 8 hours of continuing Education hours of burn related care annually. Collaborates effectively throughout the organization, region, and state through the establishment of effective, collegial networks throughout the Medical Center and referral region. Serves as an organization representative for local, state and national Burn associations. Ensures that Burn Services are provided in accordance with internal/external regulations, policies and procedures, and ABA burn verification standards. In collaboration with the Burn Medical Director and Program Manager, develops and monitors the Burn Program Quality Improvement program per American Burn Association standards. Participates in community outreach and education within the referral area as indicated in collaboration with the Outreach Coordinator and Burn Medical Director to comply with ABA Burn standards. Identifies burn specific educational needs and coordinates the planning/implementation and presentation of such programs.  

Collaborates with external and internal resources to facilitate the continuum of care for the burn population through community education programs. Attends multidisciplinary burn rounds and morbidity & mortality burn conference. Coordinates the burn quarterly quality meeting in collaboration with the Program Manager and Burn Medical Director and submits meeting minutes to hospital QAPI for hospital integration. Serves as unifying and integrating force to achieve Burn Center goals in collaboration with Program Manager and Burn Medical Director to assist in the success of the Medical Center. Ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.  The ABPM facilitates integration of pre-hospital, Emergency Department, and inpatient services to ensure delivery of quality patient care specific to the age/development needs of the burn patient population. Maintains current membership in a national burn organization and participates on national committees. Participates and supervises the day-to-day responsibilities for the burn program as it relates to nursing, ancillary personnel, providers involved in the care of trauma and burn patients.  Participates in policy development in collaboration with both Program Manager and Burn Medical Director. Utilize the burn registry for reporting and monitoring of data for compliance.   Works collaboratively with the Trauma/Burn Registry Supervisor and Program Manager. Assist with development, implementation and evaluation of long-term outcomes in burn care according to standards. Attend/participate with Burn activations in the Emergency Department identifying care opportunities and working on solutions with the Program Manager, Emergency Department leadership and Burn Medical Director. Collaborates with Program Manager and Burn Medical Director for budgetary needs and fiscal responsibilities. Assists with staff performance evaluation, hiring, interviewing, disciplinary action in collaboration with Program Manager.  Facilitates resolution conflicts and recovery to empower staff in decision-making. Coordinates ABA Burn Verification process in collaboration with Program Manager and Burn Medical Director. Promotes a culture of safety for patients, self and co-workers in collaboration with Program Manager and Burn Medical Director
