Overview
Job Summary: Provides clinical leadership for the development and monitoring of Trauma Program at AHWFB according to hospital regulatory process and American College of Surgeons trauma verification standards. Responsibilities include integration of trauma care with the OR (trauma), Trauma ICU, Post Surgical Critical Care Unit, Trauma Medical/Surgical unit, Trauma Rehabilitation, Pediatric Trauma Department, Life Support Education, Emergency Department, Air Care and ancillary services, referring facilities and pre-hospital EMS agencies.
Education / Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required or equivalent RN experience in trauma care with five years’ experience in Level I Trauma Center required. Demonstrated leadership/management experience required. Demonstrated leadership, management, education, and performance improvement experience required. Completion of TOPIC Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement course, Optimal Trauma Center Organization and Management Course, DMEP (disaster) Course and Registry Course within 1 years of hire. Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support required. ATLS course certification within 1 year of hire. National certification in Emergency (CEN), Critical Care (CCRN), Trauma (TCRN), or Flight nursing required.
What You'll Do: Ensures short- and long-term goals are met through the development of performance standards, capitalizing on employee strengths and supporting the Mission, Vision, Core Values and Evidence-based practice within Trauma Services in collaboration with Program Manager, DON and Trauma Medical Director. Collaborates with Trauma Performance Improvement Coordinators, Registrars and Injury Prevention Coordinator, Providers, Nursing Staff and Educators on trauma care. Maintains 36 Hours of trauma related continuing education in 3 years. Collaborates effectively throughout the organization, region, and state through the establishment of effective, collegial networks throughout the Medical Center and referral region. Serves as organization representative for local, state and national Trauma associations. Ensures that Trauma Services are provided in accordance with internal/external regulations, policies and procedures and ACS trauma verification standards. In collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and Program Manager, develops and monitors the Trauma Quality Improvement Program per ACS Level I Trauma standards. Participates in community outreach and education within the referral area as indicated in collaboration with the Outreach Coordinator to comply with ACS Trauma verification standards. Identifies trauma specific educational needs and coordinates the planning/implementation and presentation of such programs. Collaborates with external and internal resources to facilitate the continuum of care for the trauma population through education programs. Attends multidisciplinary trauma round in TICU, trauma floor, morning trauma report and monthly trauma simulations. Participates and attends trauma morbidity & mortality conference and Trauma PEER Review meetings. Coordinates the quarterly Trauma PIPS/OPS Systems meeting and submits meeting minutes to hospital QAA for hospital integration in collaboration with Program Manager.
Collaborates with Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director for budgetary needs and fiscal responsibilities. Serves as unifying and integrating force to achieve Trauma Center goals in collaboration with Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director to assist in the success of the Medical Center. Ensures age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served. The ATPM facilitates integration of pre-hospital, Emergency Department, and inpatient services to ensure delivery of quality patient care specific to the age/development needs of the trauma patient population. Maintains current membership in a national trauma organization and participates on national committees. Attend/participate in Trauma activations in the Emergency Department identifying care opportunities and working on solutions with the Program Manager, Emergency Department leadership and Trauma Medical Director. Participates and supervises the day-to-day responsibilities for trauma program as it related to nursing, ancillary personnel, providers involved in the care of trauma patients. Participates in policy development in collaboration with Trauma Medical Director and Program Manager. Utilize the trauma registry for reporting and monitoring of data for compliance. Works collaboratively with the Trauma Registry Supervisor for oversight of the trauma registry. Assists with staff performance evaluation, hiring, interviewing, disciplinary action in collaboration with Program Manager. Facilitates resolution conflicts and recovery to empower staff in decision-making. Coordinates ACS Trauma Verification process in collaboration with Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director. Promotes a culture of safety for patients, self and co-workers in conjunction with the Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director.
