Job Summary

The Unit Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of nursing services on his/her shifts, promotes cooperation and assures proper communication flow. The Unit Coordinator promotes a safe environment for residents, teammates and visitors and performs all related job responsibilities in a safe manner. The Unit Coordinator maintains clinical and professional competency and demonstrates leadership in the role of professional nurse, preceptor, and clinical resource. This position assists with nursing tasks on the units directed by the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager or Nursing Supervisor.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for resident satisfaction with care and services
  • Schedule and organize assignments for resident care, breaks, meals and cleaning duties
  • Assume responsibilities for all activities on the unit (including labs, weights, monitoring of labs etc.)
  • Handle family concerns, staffing issues, and other aspects of resident care, notifying the Administrator/DON as appropriate
  • Ensure the Unit Secretary conducts his/her responsibilities in an accurate and timely manner
  • Transcribe, verify and implement the physicians’ orders according to policy
  • Ensure that resident care conditions and concerns are reported accurately at the end of the shift and document the same information on the communication report
  • Assist with orienting new teammates to the unit
  • Report all incident and medication errors to DON and assure that appropriate form is filled out
  • Assure that ADLs are logged in Care Tracker each shift.
  • Conduct staff meetings as indicated/necessary in Nursing Supervisor’s or Assistant Nurse Manager’s absence
  • Make rounds to determine resident care level, environment safety and employees’ performance
  • Ensure that residents’ care plans are being followed through by appropriate staff members.
  • Direct resident care, such as routine medication administration performance of treatments, therapies and procedures

Physical Requirements

Must speak English and be able to communicate effectively with residents, visitors and staff. Must have good general vision and hearing, as well as excellent verbal skills. Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds shoulder high. Critical thinking and the ability to respond quickly and efficiently to stressful situations in necessary.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Current LPN licensure to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of NC required. Two years of nursing experience with the geriatric population required. Ability to work quickly and efficiently with minimal supervision.
