Position Highlights: 

  • Shift Schedule:  Full time (40hrs weekly), M-F, 7am-3pm or 8am-4pm per scheduling needs
  • Department:  Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) 
  • Location:  Brenner Children’s Hospital

What You’ll Need: 

  • Graduation from accredited School of Nursing; BSN required. MSN preferred. 
  • Registered Nurse licensure from the State of North Carolina Board of Nursing required.
  • One year of Pediatric Critical Care experience required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.  
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of hire, per unit guidelines.  
  • Relevant Nursing Certification required within one year of hire.

 

How You’ll Impact Patient Care: 

The PICU Sedation Program Coordinator is a registered nurse who coordinates the PICU Sedation Program as delegated by the Nurse Manager and Director of Nursing and in collaboration with the PICU Sedation Medical Director, PICU intensivists, anesthesiologists, and other health care professionals to provide sedation with analgesia and pain management to pediatric patients in a variety of locations. Patient care is provided using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Age/developmentally appropriate care is provided in accordance with standards of care.  

 

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  

1. Coordinates PICU sedation services in conjunction with PICU Sedation Medical Director and in collaboration with all pediatric subspecialties. 

2. Develops and communicates sedation schedule. 

3. Utilizes the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care .

4. Creates and maintains a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, co-workers, and facility. 

5. Ensures complete, accurate, and timely written documentation and communication of patient information. 

6. Coordinates BCH Vascular Access Team including maintaining competencies and facilitating PICC lines placement. 

7. Communicates to the team, co-workers, patients, and family members in an effective, positive, and professional manner. 

8. Conducts patient/family follow up phone calls.
