Overview

  JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for the assignment, deployment, and tracking of all adult/pediatric air and ground assets within AirCare Program. Receives information from various sources for services, including telephone calls, radio calls, and information sent via monitoring equipment.  Ensures that all monitoring equipment is in working order and reports deficiencies to the most appropriate source for any repairs. Performs duties in a manner designed to project a positive image of WFBH. Ensures that all dispatched requests/contacts with patients, the public, physicians, and other hospital staff are carried out in a prompt and courteous manner. This position utilizes a team approach with other staff in the Regional Operations Center to assist with management of patient flow successfully and safely. Since the department is open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, this position is required to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as during inclement weather.  This position is severe weather critical. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED.  Two years dispatching or emergency service in field operations preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Current Emergency Medical Technician certification or Emergency Medical Dispatch certification required. BLS and BTLS certifications preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Adheres to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building.
  2. Serves as the liaison between staff of the referring facility and staff of WFBH to ensure a smooth inbound and outbound patient transfer process. 
  3. Interacts with coworkers in an effective, positive, and professional manner to encourage a cohesive work environment.
  4. Develops and maintains effective processes and documentation in information systems to facilitate efficient and safe transports.
  5. Ensures safety of AirCare flight crew by being responsible for AirCare dispatching, flight following information, and tracking. 
  6. Dispatches Air Care/Brenner Critical Care Transport: receives requests, arranges requested mode of transport, documents pertinent information.
  7. Demonstrates responsibility for professional development by participating in department education programs and department hospital activities.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Exceptional interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
  • Basic computer skills with ability to navigate within multiple screens comfortably, Typing speed of 35 wpm minimum
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work within a fast-paced environment
