Overview

FLSA Status: Exempt Original Date: January 2016 Last Revision: November 2018 JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the nutritional care of patients, operating, administrative, and financial standards of the Departments of Inpatient Clinical Nutrition Services, and Outpatient Clinical Nutrition Services. The functions of these departments include the evaluation and assessment of patient nutritional needs, development of nutritional care plans, patient education, quality improvement/assurance, and development of nutrition related outcome studies. Maintains and develops client relationships and client satisfaction for nutrition care of patients. Accountable for the execution of service quality by maintaining highest level of delivery. Promotes and supports workplace diversity. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Nutrition with five years' experience as a registered dietician required. Master's degree preferred. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Active, licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in the State of North Carolina, meeting continuing professional development requirements. Registered with Commission on Dietetic Registration. Member of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Certification in a specialty practice, e.g. CNSC, CDE etc. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Adheres to the hospital and departmental policies and procedures promoting a cooperative work environment. Demonstrates a personal commitment to customer service and satisfaction by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building. 2. Directs daily operations of nutrition programs for patients and specialty areas including screening, assessment, intervention, menu planning, care and discharge planning to ensure patient nutrition needs and customer satisfaction levels are met. 3. Ensures employees have appropriate equipment, supplies and resources to perform their jobs and meet goals, cost controls and deadlines. 4. Manages and promotes food and nutrition programs according to Sodexo standards and policy. 5. Collaborates and communicates with culinary and clinical departments on established processes, special diets, and menu requests. 6. Provides input on unit and staffing productivity and establishing department goals. 7. Supervises program activities by delegating authority, assigning and prioritizing activities, and monitoring operation standards. 8. Manages by providing positive and constructive feedback to employees to reward, coach, correct, and motivate. 9. Ensures licenses and certification are current for employees. 10. Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulations as well as Sodexo/client policies and procedures (e.g. HIPPA/Privacy Act, CMS, quality assurance, safety, infection control, pain management, operations, and personnel). 11. Develops and maintains a Quality Improvement Program that meets Medical Center and regulatory requirements. Establishes operating standards, implements quality improvements and communicates to other departments. 12. Assists the director with reviews and maintenance of other departmental policies and procedures. Serves as preceptor for new employees and dietetic interns as assigned. 13. Provides clinical nutrition leadership throughout the Medical Center.
