Overview

JOB SUMMARY: 

Assists patients and families by facilitating communications with nursing and medical staff regarding patient/family needs. Facilitates visitation in the treatment area in collaboration with the nursing and medical staff. Uses appropriate resources and referral services to address patient/family needs. 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

High school diploma or GED equivalent. 

Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Psychology, or Human Relations discipline preferred. 

Hospital experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

1. Ensures a caring, compassionate environment for patients and families. 

2. Ensures hospital and community resources are utilized to address patient/family needs. 

3. Ensures family visitation in the treatment areas by adhering to policy and procedure. 

4. Ensures a safe, secure environment for patients and families in the waiting area. 

5. Provides age/developmentally appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for specific age groups served. 

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: 

Excellent oral, written, and listening communication skills Ability to perform job duties in a stressful environment 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Contact with patients and families under very stressful situations. 

Possible exposure to infectious diseases.

Possible exposure to radiation/hazardous materials. 

Exposure to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals. 

Subject to may interruptions. 

Pressure to handle multiple requests and inquiries
