Job Summary:
The Trauma Registrar performs hospital-based coding and injury scaling in addition to abstracting trauma-related data primarily available from the patient’s electronic medical record. All data is entered in the trauma services registry accurately and in a timely manner as defined by current ICD-10 and AIS-ISS coding principles, the National Trauma Data Standard (NTDS) and Atrium Health Navicent (AHN) trauma services. Additional duties may include but are not limited to trauma patient identification for inclusion in the registry, data validation, writing meeting minutes, developing/updating work instructions (WIs), and attending Trauma Peer Review/Systems Committee meetings
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Be familiar with the current National Trauma Data Standard (NTDS), Georgia and facility registry inclusion criteria and assure accurate identification of facility’s trauma population.
• Be familiar with the current NTDS, Georgia and facility data definitions.
• Accurately abstract and code specific patient, injuries and treatment information from different sources as well as maintain and update existing patient records according the NTDS, Georgia and facility data definitions and guidelines.
• Consistently meet agreed upon goals for record completion.
• Ensure and maintain reliability and confidentiality of trauma patient data.
• Be familiar with the Registry chapter requirements from the current version of the American College of Surgeons, Optimal Resource for Care of the Injure Patient.
• As assigned, assists with preparation for Trauma Services and hospital surveys.
• As assigned, participates in quality and process improvement activities to ensure the accuracy of data collection.
• Attends hospital Registry and other meetings as assigned.
Education, Training, and Experience:
• High school diploma required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field (preferred), and previous trauma registry experience STRONGLY PREFERRED.
• Two (2) years’ experience healthcare coding, transcription, billing experience
