Atrium Health, one of the most comprehensive public, not-for-profit healthcare systems in the nation, is actively recruiting an experienced Pulmonary Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant at Atrium Health Lincoln. Our facility is a rapidly growing community hospital with over 100 beds. The hospital is located in Lincolnton, NC, just northwest of Uptown Charlotte.

This position will focus on treatment and management of patients with Asthma, COPD, Chronic cough, Interstitial Lung disease, tobacco cessation, early detection of lung cancer through lung cancer screening and incidental lung nodule programs. The APP will be expected to manage acute and chronic pulmonary diseases and is encouraged to practice at the top of their license. Essential functions: obtain a medical history, physical exam, document findings and prepare a plan of care in a timely manner including prescribing medications and ordering appropriate tests/procedures. Attend, participate in and contribute to group/practice meetings, development of policies and procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.

 

Details of this practice and qualified candidate:

  • Physical practice is in Atrium Health Pulmonology & Sleep Medicine office in Lincolnton NC
  • Work schedule – Monday- Friday 8am-5pm, Rotation to nights / weekends only as needed for emergent/critical staffing shortages.  
  • Primarily outpatient. 
  • In person office visits and virtual visits
  • Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program.  
  • Nurse practitioners are required to have a master’s degree or doctorate in nursing practice. Certification as an ACNP/FNP from a nationally recognized certifying body is required.
  • Physician Assistants with certification from the National Commission on Certification of PAs is required.  
  • 1- 2 years of APP experience preferred; post graduate Pulmonary Medicine fellowship and/or Pulmonary Medicine experience is a plus; interest in preventive medicine
  • Interpersonal skills and critical thinking must be demonstrated.
  • North Carolina license, North Carolina DEA, BLS and ACLS required.

Our critical care professionals strive to provide world-class comprehensive care to critically ill or injured patients. Our expert critical care team of physicians and advanced practice providers manage patients within our specialty intensive care units: cardiac medical ICU, cardiothoracic surgical ICU, medical ICU, and surgical ICU. Attending Intensivists provide supervision at our busy medical center that includes a 30 adult ICU unit and expanding to include a second 14 bed adult ICU unit in 2024. 

NP and PA duties include:

  • Daily management and documentation of complicated critically ill medical and surgical patients.
  • Admission directly from the operating room and management of hemodynamically complex, post op cardiac surgery patients as well as admission hemodynamically complex patients directly from the interventional cardiac lab. 
  • Familiarity with mechanical support deices i.e. IABP and Impella is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with procedures including but not limited to central venous and arterial vascular access is preferred. 
  • Our site hosts an advanced practice provider fellowship in critical care.

Job Summary

Specialty care APPs provide services focused concentration on a single system caring for acute and chronically ill patients.


Essential Functions

  • Performs initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments.
  • Records findings of examinations, assessments and plan of care.
  • Performs minor office-based medical and/or surgical procedures.
  • Writes appropriate prescriptions and administers medications.
  • Orders and interprets daily laboratory and radiology examinations.
  • Determines treatment plan for patient.
  • Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner on the patient's medical record.
  • Acts as a patient advocate for the population served.
  • Attends, participates and contributes to group/practice meetings and development of policies and procedures when requested.

 

Physical Requirements
Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms. Must possess intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity. Must have the ability to react and perform in stressful situations

Education, Experience and Certifications.
Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms. Must possess intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity. Must have the ability to react and perform in stressful situations. Schedule primarily composed of weekday shifts, less than or equal to 200 hours of weekend and/or night coverage .


Nurse Practitioner

Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required. License to practice as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required. ACNP, AGACNP, AGNP, PNP, or PNP-AC board certification preferred based population served.


Physician Assistant

Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master's Degree preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
