Atrium Health's Virtual Critical Care Team is actively recruiting an experienced, Critical Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. 

The APP will be expected to: 

  • Manage medical and surgical ICU patients and is encouraged to practice at the top of their license
  • Obtain a medical history, physical exam, document findings and prepare a plan of care in a timely manner including ordering medications and appropriate tests/procedures
  • Attend, participate in and contribute to group/practice meetings, development of policies and procedures, and quality improvement initiatives

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Acute Care, Board Certified NP or PA actively working in critical care
  • Minimum 2 years bedside experience in critical care as an Acute Care NP or PA
  • Will require Georgia and North Carolina state licenses and DEA
  • ACLS/BLS

About the program:

Current team consists of 30 APPs, 60 physicians, 42 critical care RNs, 6 critical care respiratory therapists, and 3 critical care pharmacists

Our virtual critical care program provides 24/7 coverage via a shift-based model to 16 different facilities across North Carolinas and Georgia

Critical care services provided by using two-way audio video communication, real-time bedside waveform monitors, and integrated EMR for review of documentation, labs, vitals, and diagnostics

Job Summary

Includes Neonatal, critical care, emergency services and includes cardio-thoracic surgery. Patients are typically intubated on ventilators and/or have hemodynamic instability. The focus is on very invasive procedures and the hemodynamic management of very critical patients. Manages ventilator settings, vasopressors and solve complex clinical cases. Schedule consisting of night shifts for 90% or more of the time. 



Essential Functions

  • Performs initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments.
  • Records findings of examinations, assessments and plan of care.
  • Performs a wide range of surgical and/or medical procedures.
  • Writes appropriate prescriptions and administers medications.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and radiology examinations.
  • Determines treatment plan for patient.
  • Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner on the patient's medical record.
  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.
  • Acts as a patient advocate for the population served.
  • Attends, participates and contributes to group/practice meetings and development of policies and procedures when requested

    Cardiothoracic Surgery Setting with less than 5 years CVTS experience
  • Manages STS Database data collection pre and post-operatively.
  • Performs clinic duties one day a week with assigned physician.
  • Provides weeknight Call on a Q3 or Q4 rotation; weekend Call responsibilities on a Q3 or Q4 rotation. 

 

Physical Requirements
Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms. Must possess intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity. Must have the ability to react and perform in stressful situations.

Education, Experience and Certifications.
Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works. Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in SC required. BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice. Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.


Nurse Practitioner

Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required. License to practice as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required. ACNP, AGACNP, PNP-AC or NNP board certification preferred according to population served.


Physician Assistant

Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master's Degree preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
