10DE Progressive Care is a 19 bed, high acuity progressive care unit serving a diverse patient population with complex medical, surgical, cardiac, neurological, and trauma needs. Patients may be admitted from any of our specialty ICUs, the Emergency Department, or transferred from any other nursing unit when a patient’s status requires a higher level of care but does not require ICU care. Most patients we care for are still mechanically ventilated via tracheostomy, or require non-invasive positive pressure ventilatory support (BiPAP/CPAP). Many of our patients are recovering from severe critical illnesses, and require frequent monitoring and nursing interventions, complex care coordination, and intensive rehabilitation needs by physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Due to the high acuity of our population, the typical nurse to patient ratio is 1:3. All patients in the Progressive Care Unit receive continuous cardiac and pulse oximetry monitoring. Our unit has a strong culture of teamwork, quality improvement, and professional involvement within the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
