Overview
The Pharmacy Technician III provides efficient, quality pharmaceutical care. He/she assists Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications
and pharmaceutical supplies and maintaining patient records and in the procurement of pharmaceutical supplies and medications.

LICENSURES OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Licensed with the State of Georgia as a Pharmacy Technician
Must be PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certified
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
Prior experience working in a pharmacy setting
ROLE SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Follows departmental policies and procedures when dispensing medications.
Dispenses inpatient and outpatient orders ONLY after orders have been checked by a Pharmacist.
Follows hospital and departmental policies with regard to phone, email and internet privileges.
2. Demonstrates competency in delivering Pharmaceutical Care.
Receives and processes requests for narcotics in an accurate and timely manner for all patients (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult
and geriatric).
Accurately returns narcotics to stock if they can be recycled.
Fills all dispensing records for narcotics in an accurate and timely manner.
Restocks Floyd Behavioral Health non-controlled and controlled medications as needed.
Restocks all assigned Omnicells with controlled substances daily.
Prepares and tracks all manual proof of use journals as needed.
Prepares, delivers, collects and analyzes any manual narcotic count records from the nursing units monthly.
3. Assists the Director of Pharmacy in controlling the inventory of the department.
Removes expired and overstocked narcotics from the inventory into a secure segregated location.
Performs assigned cleaning and straightening duties.
Ensures adequate inventory levels of all controlled substances.
Inventories the Class 2 narcotics at least weekly and more often as needed.
Inventories the Class 3, 4, 5 controlled medications at least monthly.
Performs and maintains records of whole dose waste in accordance with legal requirements.
Performs and maintains records of partial dose waste in accordance with legal requirements.
Alerts the Administrative Assistant when there are expired medications to be returned through a reverse distributor.
Tests all injectable whole dose returns that are out of the original container with a refractometer in a timely manner.
Thoroughly investigates any and all narcotic discrepancies in an attempt to resolve them.
4. Communicates with the Pharmacists when problematic situations arise.
Notifies Pharmacist of therapeutic duplications, allergy or incompatibility inter-actions.
Notifies the Pharmacist or supervisor immediately of any customer service-related issue.
5. Orientation and Training
Actively participates in the orientation and training of all Technical and Pharmacist staff on manual and automated controlled substance
procedures.
