Education/Experience/Certifications to Qualify:
- Bachelor's degree and successful completion of a Medical Technologist program
- Five years' clinical lab experience
- Or two years' clinical lab experience with Medical Lab Tech (MLT) certification
- Previous experience as Medical Technologist preferred
- Eligible for Medical Technologist certification (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
Essential Functions:
- Assures accurate and timely performance of patient procedures and/or issuance of blood products.
- Assures accurate and timely performance of results reporting, QC and QA procedures according to departmental policy.
- Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment.
- Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
- Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
- Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases.
- Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
- Performs all job related procedures as defined in applicable procedure manuals.
- Provides age appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults.
- Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
