Overview

Job Summary

The Dental Assistant performs clinical duties to include assisting dentist with procedures, taking and developing x-rays and other related and/or delegable (per NC State Board of Dental Examiners) duties under the supervision of the Manager or Dentist.



Essential Functions

  • Orients patient to the clinic and assists with care.
  • Obtains and records vital signs.
  • Assists dentist with examination and treatment.
  • Conducts patient education (oral hygiene, preventative care and post op care).
  • May participate in Procedure Verification /Universal Protocol in the absence of a RN.
  • Prepares and sets up for dental procedures.
  • Takes and develops radiographs as ordered by dentist if demonstrates certification from an approved N.C. Dental Radiology course.
  • Performs chairside functions as approved by the N. C. State Board of dental Examiners as delegable by the supervising dentist.

     

Physical Requirements
Work requires walking, bending, long periods of sitting and standing, assisting with procedures. Must be able to lift 75 pounds in weight, handling patient, medical equipment and supplies. Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms. Must have intact sight, hearing, smell, touch and finger dexterity. Must have ability to concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or clinical conditions.



Education, Experience and Certifications

6 month's experience in Dental Health Care preferred. Requires the ability to operate and assist using all dental equipment. Certification is required to take dental radiographs. Competency in performing Delegable Functions is to be certified by sponsoring dentist. Maintains CPR certification.
