Overview
JOB SUMMARY:
Registered Nurse (RN) professional responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising the nursing care provided to meet patient needs on his/her assigned shift.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with three years clinical experience with demonstrated clinical expertise and management abilities.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina required.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plans and supervises safe, efficient, and economical nursing care in compliance with nursing standards, hospital policies and procedures, and regulatory agency requirements.
- Assesses delivery of patient care, helps with patient/family teaching, identifies problems, and makes improvements as necessary. Assesses nursing care needs by making patient rounds, or unit/departmental rounds.
- Sees that quality patient care is provided for each patient in accordance with hospital and nursing standards. Acts as liaison between patient, physician, and family by explaining procedures, identifying problems, clarifying information, or being a patient advocate.
- Participates in providing patient care as necessary and assists in emergencies. Assists in the care of grieving families; oversees the disposition of patients who have died.
- Promotes harmonious relationships and favorable attitudes among members of the health care team through problem identification and problem resolution.
- Maintains and assists in coordinating effective communication between nursing and other departments.
- Accepts, interprets and implements policies and procedures set forth by nursing and hospital administration to personnel, patients and families, and physicians.
- Maintains or improves clinical expertise necessary to function as a role model for staff in order to evaluate quality of care, initiate appropriate action, and direct staff activities of nursing personnel.
- Knowledgeable of fire, disaster, and safety plans and directs personnel in performance of these duties.
- Provides leadership for staff and seeks assistance from appropriate resource persons as necessary in solving clinical and management problems.
- Monitors supply and equipment needs; submits recommendations to leadership.
- Performs special projects as assigned.
