The Wake Forest Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is a dynamic research institution dedicated to advancing clinical and translational science through innovative research and collaborative partnerships. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Program Director to join our team and oversee critical functions related to Institutionally-Supported Research Centers, grant submissions, and resource management.

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Program Director will play a pivotal role in the Wake Forest CTSI by providing strategic leadership and oversight for several key areas, including the management of institutionally-supported research centers, submission of Program/Project grants to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) or other funding agencies, administration of the Resources and Services module of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA), and the PCORI (Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute) capacity-building grant. The successful candidate will have a strong background in research administration, grant management, and program oversight, with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Oversee the administrative management of Institutionally-Supported Research Centers, including monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of process and implementing improvements as needed. 
  • Coordinate with Research Vice Deans to ensure alignment of Center goals with Wake Forest University School of Medicine initiatives and objectives.
  • Lead the preparation, submission, and management of Center-driven institutional Team grant awards being submitted to large funding agencies (i.e. NIH).
  • Coordinate with researchers and administrative staff to ensure timely and accurate submissions for grant proposals.
  • Serve as the Administrative lead for the Clinical and Translational Science Award’s Resources and Services module, ensuring effective utilization and integration of available resources for the entire Advocate Health enterprise.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance CTSI Resource allocation and service delivery.
  • Engage in the support of the Patient-Center Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Health Systems Implementation Initiative (HSII) to provide overall project management support which includes budgetary oversight, creation of content for and the guiding of the submission of progress reports to the funding agency. 
  • Provide meeting support and coordination of HSII Executive, Steering, and Partnership monthly meetings.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including researchers, funding agencies, and community partners.
  • Represent the CTSI in meetings, conferences, and other professional activities.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration across various Wake Forest University School of Medicine research initiatives and find opportunities for intersection points. 
  • Contribute to the strategic planning process for the CTSI, Institutionally-Funded Research Centers, and Program/Project Grants, providing insights and recommendations based on program and grant performance.
  • Prepare and present reports on program activities, outcomes, and financial status to CTSI leadership and stakeholders.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

Bachelor's degree with three years of progressive and applicable experience in the area to be served.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of functional area to be served 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Strong project and process management skills Knowledge of program/project management techniques and methods 
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills 
  • Outstanding knowledge of data analysis, reporting and budgeting 
  • Working knowledge of all MS Office applications including Word and PowerPoint 
  • Ability to achieve results with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Motivated self-starter 
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytic skills
