Atrium Health at CMC Main is looking for an experienced full time advanced clinical practitioner (ACP) with experience in cardiac surgery post-op management and critical care. This position is seeking board certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) or Physician Assistants (PA). One (1) year of experience in a cardiothoracic intensive care unit (CT-ICU) as an ACP, or a post grad ICU fellowship is required for application. CT-ICU intensivists provide supervision. 

Duties include:

Admission directly from the operating room and management of hemodynamically complex, post-op cardiac surgery patients.

Familiarity with mechanical support devices i.e. ECMO, VADs, and IABPs as well as knowledge of heart transplant management is preferred, but not required. 

Experience with procedures including central line, arterial line placement and intubation are helpful but not required.

Position Description:

Daily rounding, evaluation, management and stabilization of complex post op cardiac surgery patients including but not limited to: CABG, valve replacements, complex aortic replacement, heart transplant and durable mechanical support devices.

Responsible for admission notes, daily progress notes, and billing.

Interpreting pulmonary artery catheter data, and management of chest tubes and temporary epicardial pacing.

Management of mechanical support devices including VADs, ECMO, and IABPs.

Service provides 24/7 coverage with shift based model. Shifts are 13 hours long and include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are rotated equally among staff.

Teaching opportunities with ACP fellows and nursing staff.

Eligible for overtime, PTO, and Performance Incentive Bonuses.

$2500/5 days of CME.

Position Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited ACNP or PA program.

Nurse practitioners are required to have a master’s degree or doctorate in nursing practice. Certification as an ACNP from a nationally recognized certifying body is required.

Physician Assistants with certification from the National Commission on Certification of PAs is required.

Post graduate ICU fellowship or at least one year of experience in a CT-ICU.

Interpersonal skills and critical thinking must be demonstrated.

BLS and ACLS required.

Will need to maintain mechanical support competencies.

NC licensure within 60 days of hire.

Cardiothoracic Surgery Setting with less than 5 years CVTS experience:

Manages STS Database data collection pre and post-operatively.

Performs clinic duties one day a week with assigned physician.

Provides weeknight Call on a Q3 or Q4 rotation; weekend Call responsibilities on a Q3 or Q4 rotation.

Physical Requirements

Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms. Must possess intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity. Must have the ability to react and perform in stressful situations.

Education, Experience and Certifications.

Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works. Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in SC required. BLS required per policy guidelines; with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice. Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.

Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required. License to practice as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required. ACNP, AGACNP, PNP-AC or NNP board certification preferred according to population served.

Physician Assistant

Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master's Degree preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
