Overview

Job Summary

Provides assessment, education, and clinical support for the breastfeeding family in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Serves as a clinical resource for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to promote optimal patient care and assists with the marketing of lactation services to professional and non-professional consumers.



Essential Functions

  • Performs and/or assists with treatments, therapies, and procedures.
  • Provides and assesses the effectiveness of patient and family education in the field of breastfeeding and human lactation.
  • Obtains necessary information to develop, implement, and update the individualized lactation care plan.
  • Participates in department performance activities with focus on patient safety and excellence in customer service.
  • Plans and implements lactation in-services for nursing team members and the community.
  • Takes responsibility for maintaining knowledge of current trends in lactation, breastfeeding tools/products, and knowledge in current evidenced-based practice.
  • Utilizes verbal and non-verbal communication in interactions with patients, families, and physicians.
  • Assists in marketing projects and events.
  • Serves as a resource for nursing team and providers in the field of breastfeeding and human lactation.

     

Physical Requirements
Requires walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending. Ability to lift/carry 15 pounds frequently throughout the shift.



Education, Experience and Certifications

IBCLC certification requirements as established by International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLE) required. Associates Degree in Nursing preferred. BLS required per policy guidelines.
