Education/Experience/Certifications to Qualify: 

  • Associate's degree with experience preferred.
  • MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification required. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Assures accurate and timely performance of patient procedures and/or issuance of blood products.
  • Assures accurate and timely performance of results reporting, QC and QA procedures according to departmental policy.
  • Follows proper safety and identification procedures when dealing with patients and/or specimens under any circumstance or environment.
  • Improves work skills through self-study and continuing education.
  • Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
  • Protects self, coworkers and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases.
  • Exhibits and promotes the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals and standards of laboratory testing.
  • Performs all job related procedures as defined in applicable procedure manuals.
  • Provides age appropriate specimen collection in accordance with age specific guidelines for school age, adolescents, early adults, middle adults and/or late adults.
  • Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
