Overview

Primary Purpose

Serves in clinical instructor position through an affiliated school of nursing.  Responsible for teaching assignments in clinical setting. 

Major Responsibilities 

  • Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as designated by the department chairperson and approved by the dean. 
  • Participants will ensure they meet all orientation and onboarding requirements for the SON they will be partnered with for the semester.
  • Participants will complete the NC AHEC Nursing Clinical Instructor Course within 1 year of agreeing to participate, with preference of completion within the first 4 months.
  • Participants are expected to work with the SON to schedule instructor-led shifts, ensuring that they do not coincide with any patient care shifts that fall under the clinical staffing guidelines for weekend rotations and holidays. 
  • Assume responsibility for being familiar with and adhering to all policies of the affiliated School of Nursing.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. BSN required. MSN preferred. 

Certification / License

Registered Nurse licensure from the State of North Carolina Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year of hire for Adult Critical Care, Adult ED Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 1 year of hire for Network ED, Peds ED, PICU and NICU, and other areas per unit guidelines.

 
 
 
 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 50 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak English in good, understandable terms. Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Finger dexterity. Critical thinking and ability to concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
