Overview

Job Summary:

The PFS Specialist serves as a bridge between department management and registrar level staff. The PFS Specialist has increased responsibilities in the department for training and development of Registrar staff. A PFS Specialist may serve a rotating role covering critical vacancies and training new hires or in a permanent role at one location with permanent shift assignment functioning as trainer and liaison between Registrars and Management or facility leadership.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides training to new employees for assigned rotation and to current employees as requested by the Specialist’s Supervisor, Manager or AVP 
  •  Provides training feedback, suggestions and recommendations to the management team. 
  •  Keeps current on PFS processes, assuring that any changes are provided to appropriate party for updating training or policy manuals. 
  •  Participates in the creation of process and training documents to be used in new employee training.
  • Assists management in training and development of new and current registrars at facility.
  •  Provides feedback to management on employee’s progress through observation, auditing and screening of employee work. 
  •  Performs Registrar functions as necessary to support patient volume and team at assigned location and shift. 
  •  Serves as liaison between Patient Access and clinical departments during assigned shift. 
  •  Assists management with attendance records for specified shift. 
  •  May assist management with staffing coverage for facility location and may participate in weekend management on-call rotation. 
  •  May be responsible for compliance and/or audit functions as assigned by management. 
  •  Promotes a positive hospital image to patients, visitors and staff adhering to the Atrium Core Values of Caring, Commitment, Integrity and Teamwork.

Education, Training and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent BA Preferred

Excellent communication and customer service skills are required along with accurate spelling and attention to detail. Knowledge of Patient Access, insurance, and/or hospital billing along with knowledge of Medical Terminology is preferred. Employee must have an understanding of third party reimbursement and knowledge of computer basics is required.
