Overview
Job Summary: The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing and reporting of the financial data for month end and year end closing; analyzing and reconciling various bank accounts and general ledger accounts; billing external agencies for services; monitoring and providing monthly reporting for physician loans and student loans; preparing sales and use tax returns, unclaimed property returns, occupational tax returns, 1099, 990 and 1120 tax returns; monitoring and providing quarterly and year end reporting for various grants; maintaining the general ledger system; assists multiple companies with their department budget preparation; and directs, supervises, and evaluates the Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists.
1. Education: Must be a High School or GED Diploma Graduate, BBA in Accounting Required.
2. Experience: Minimum of five years of professional accounting experience (equivalent to Staff Accountant), preferably in a healthcare setting.
3. Certification/License/Registration: N/A
4. Position Titles and Number Supervised: Staff Accountant (2) and Accounting Specialists (3)
5. Special Training/Skills: Strong general accounting knowledge required and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Strong analytical ability required and ability to research tax regulations and GAAP regulations to ensure proper recording of activity. Tax preparation experience for 990 and 1120 returns as well as Property Tax, Occupational Tax, and Sales Tax Returns. Strong verbal and written communication skills required with having to communicate frequently with all levels of management. Ability to multi-task. Previous experience using GEAC accounting system a plus.
6. Physical Demands: Must be able to use visual acuity to see monitor screen, computer and hard copy materials.
